Description
This course is an intensive in the very most strict technical styles of International Ballroom and International Latin-American dancing. Dances included: Standard Waltz, Standard Tango, Standard Foxtrot, Standard Quickstep, Standard Viennese Waltz, International Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. This course is the Standard of Ballroom at its most classical level. Any newcomer can step directly into this class at level 1, as this is a new format, and all things new begin at zero. The physiological, athletic, performance and kinesthetic rewards are gifts for better living.
Assignments for studiers of Ballroom dance would be as follows:
1. Create an essay about gender roles. Males should seek to understand women from a perspective that is not necessarily the role that women play in our current culture. There was a time when men were cordial and women would follow that kindness. Women did not have to work as they do now, and the luxury that was their gift was to follow the man in safety and movement. A comparison could be made with modern culture for the male or female student to devise a solution for our modern times as to this: How can we return to that beauty even now when women work within the same dimensions as men?
2. Watch a popular television show: Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Dance Your Ass Off. Find a pathway to your own personal understanding of shared physical fitness with the glory of dancing with a partner that adores only you. Write of this from the perspective of Academic Athletics. Create a workout based on dance.
